Airport Fashion: Korean Trend

For a couple of years, Korean celebrities have been taking advantage of the paparazzi following them to the airport. Idols or K-pop stars are showcasing their own casual and diverse styles when their off the stage. With so many concerts and appearances not only in Asia but Europe and America as well, according TheHallyu blog, "Airport Fashion" promotes the celebrities and a Korean trend for the world to see and hopefully follow.

The Current Trend in 2014:
In the trend of "Airport Fashion," the focus is not just the clothing. On Fashion In Korea, the main focuses are the shoes, bags, and sunglasses. They are the most common fashion key words of "Airport Fashion."

The Shoes:

Korean actress and fashionista Gong Hyo Jin and X Excuse Me line’s French Biker Boots (that she designed herself) 

Since the season is fall, the fashion is mainly over-sized sweaters, trench coats, leggings and/or skinny jeans. This style is matched with ankle boots or biker boots (or knee-high boots, but the current trend is ankle.) Fashion In Korea says that biker boots, such as the picture above, give a rock star vibe to a plain look.

The Bags:

The bags are usually totes or larger in fall colors, mainly in black or brown. There is also another trend of bags. Designer backpacks such as MCM designer backpacks has become a current trend among the Korean celebrities at the airport.

The Sunglasses:

The next items are the sunglasses. Many celebrities or idols do not have time to put on make-up early in the morning so they use sunglasses. It is the most common and the most important item among the celebrities.

Return of the Grunge: A 1990s Style Revamped

The 1990s was decade full of fashion. From the vibrant sexiness of Gianni Versace to the contemporary casual of Ralph Lauren. The 90s was full of different aspects of fashion. In this era there was particular style that captured the youths eye. This style was called Grunge.

When & Why

Even though "Grunge" was actually considered a genre of music, the clothing and the fashion became very popular. It became so popular, that a famous designer, Marc Jacobs, who worked under Perry Ellis, had a "Grunge" inspired collection. This brought grunge to glam, or maybe to people who were not fans grunge, but still liked the clothing.

What Now?

Grunge is now back in the modern era. From the streets to the runway and from casual people to celebrities. It was a trend that was considered very unfashionable, but now has permanent place in the high fashion world. Every high fashion magazine and every runway in the past couple years has added an grunge inspired look.

What are the type of looks?

There are actually different looks in grunge. There is the hard and tough masculine style of grunge as well as a soft and tough looking type of grunge for girls. There is also the preppy style of grunge, this was made famous by Anna Sui which is now popular among students.

What are the key points?

One of the main points of grunge is plaid or tartan. Plaid definitely helps the look, that anyone is going for, to become grunge. Wearing the plaid pattern as a shirt or around the waist is a style of grunge. Next points are jeans. They can be washed out jeans, torn jeans, jean shorts and even jean jackets. Another option are floral prints. If someone were to wear bright floral prints or light pastel colors they would have to pair it with a leather jacket or combat boots, such as Doc Martens.

Is it here to stay?

The points of grunge have an urban and youthful style that appeals to teenagers and adults.  It is a style that both males and females can be stylish in. Now that it is the fall season, grunge or now "neo" grunge will be seen every where. Grunge is a style that may never go away.

With so many different eras of fashion, there is no wonder why today's top fashion designers and celebrities are inspired by vintage era's. From the classic glamour of the 1920s to urban grunge of the 1990s, every era of style/fashion has been revamped and changed into modern day looks. The clothing and make-up trends of these eras are not only revamped, they are rebooted with a twist.  An example such as the "goth era", which uses dark tented colors in make-up is being used in every day looks today. Nowadays famous make-up lines have their own "dark hue" palette line of make-up.

There are so many different ways that people can showcase their fashion style. From a movie premiere, a red carpet event,  to a casual shopping day at a market/ or grocery store, celebrities everywhere are displaying their fashion sense. There is a new way of highlighting fashion trends with celebrities showcasing there fashion style. It is a trend that is important and taken very seriously in South Korea. This trendy showcase is called "Airport Fashion."

For Korean celebrities, this is their time to showcase their own style. There are "Airport Fashion" websites, blogs, and even polls of how these celebrities dress for travel. This trend has brought a huge fixation mania in the Korean fashion world. It's interesting to see what new style compilations are put together, as well as who they are wearing.
